The Media Improvement Program aims to contribute to the training of journalists and provide a space for discussion and analysis of regional issues. This is a way to strengthen democratic governance in the region and one of its main pillars, the media.
CAF is a multilateral financial institution that has been working for 40 years to support sustainable development in its shareholder countries, as well as promoting regional integration with a genuine interest in increasing competitiveness and encouraging good governance in the region.
CAF is key to better development of the media sector and its journalists. Through its efforts, CAF is creating a space for journalists to engage in a discussion of issues that are part of the regional agenda and to exchange experiences and journalistic opinions.
Program activities are conducted with the support of strategic allies with recognized and prestigious institutions. One example is the cooperation agreement signed between CAF and the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) in September 2003, which was renewed for the second time in September 2009.
CAF has also worked with the Grupo de Diarios America (GDA), the Association of European Journalists (APE), the Carter Center, the Institute for Press and Society (IPYS), among others.
Some events are also made open to the public, in order to allow more journalists, students, media and other stakeholders to have access to information firsthand.
CAF also has other activities to promote quality and ethics in the practice of journalism, including publications, as well as the periodical CAF Siglo XXI, a collection of the highlights of the activities of the Media Improvement Program.
