CAF has provided strong support to the development of the vital physical infrastructure in order to handle the basic needs of its shareholder countries and to support the processes of integration and international competitiveness of the region, especially aimed at the areas of roads, energy, telecommunications and Latin American river integration.

CAF's participation has included the rendering of technical assistance and/or financial advice to governments to facilitate the project construction process, by funding key projects that would boost national and regional development, and implementing co-financing and A/B Loans (with the participation of private financiers) to attract more resources towards the sector.

CAF’s Comprehensive Development Agenda is aimed at achieving a high level of growth that is sustained, sustainable and of quality. In terms of infrastructure that agenda is strengthened through the following programs and projects: It is worth mentioning that infrastructure is the primary intervention of human beings on earth in order to have access to it and to allow its development potential to flow. It usually begins by rendering basic services for survival – water and shelter – but then expands rapidly to include access roads that would broaden the area of influence of human activity as well as the most advanced technologies to generate energy and permit long-distance communication.

For this reason, the level of infrastructure within a territory is closely linked to the level of development of the society that lives in it and may pose a severe restriction on the possibility of large improvements in the material welfare of the society.
