| The Mesoamerica Project represents a high-level political space where the cooperation, development and integration efforts of 10 countries (Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Dominican Republic) are defined by facilitating the management and implementation of projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the region’s inhabitants.
The presence of Colombia in the Mesoamerica Project contributes to the definition and convergence of this regional initiative with the integration strategy underway in South America through the IIRSA Initiative, in order to achieve Latin American integration. At the present time, there are five CAF shareholder countries participating in the Mesoamerica Project: Colombia, Costa Rica, México, Panamá and the Dominican Republic. Since 2001, CAF has been active in this integration effort as a member of the Inter-Agency Technical Group and the Promotion and Financing Commission, which were created by the Presidents of Central America to bring technical and financial support to the Project. By doing so, CAF takes on its commitment to integration and to the development of the Mesoamerican people in the areas of infrastructure, interconnectivity and social development.
