CAF seeks to create regulations that are supported by the institutions in charge of introducing transparency in public administration and accountability in the use of resources by individuals in positions of authority. At the same time, it offers support to strengthen institutions and improve the quality of decision making processes, emphasizing the dynamics of decentralization.

CAF is currently developing the following programs geared towards strengthening democratic governance:

Governance and Political Management Program

The program aims to contribute to the development of skills and to accelerate the process of change with satisfactory levels of governance at the local government level, national and regional technical teams and civil society individuals whose function is to concentrate on matters of decentralization in order to contribute to municipal development.

Leadership for Change Program

The Program seeks to identify potential leaders in the region and prepare the groundwork for a new style of leadership, enriching their value system and providing the tools so that they may ethically, civically and democratically become the leaders of the future.

The Program was conceived to promote the fundamental principle of balance that must exist between the different sectors that make up a nation: public, private, and civil society. The program seeks to overcome the existing limitations, giving way to new generations and to strengthen democratic values in society.

Regional Updating and Improvement of Local Management Program (PRAMEG)

PRAMEG’s purpose is to have more efficient organizations with the capacity to plan, manage, increase their revenues, and coordinate their activities obtaining resources to ensure greater efficiency in rendering their services and in addressing the needs of its citizens through a cadastral modernization process at the municipal level.

Communications Media Improvement Program

This program seeks to contribute to the training of journalists. It offers refresher courses to reporters in areas where CAF is active, and provides a forum where regional agenda issues may be debated and analyzed. In this way, CAF hopes to strengthen the region’s governance and one of its main pillars - the communications media.

Program activities are conducted with the support of strategic allies that are recognized institutions with outstanding reputations. The cooperation agreement signed between CAF and the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI), is worth noting.
