Boosting Latin American journalism and promoting ethical values in the practice of journalism.
In 2003, CAF and the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) joined forces to encourage professionalism, independence and responsibility in the practice of journalism in the countries of Latin America. At that time, Enrique García, chief executive of CAF and Gabriel García Márquez, president of FNPI, signed an agreement, which was renewed for the second time in 2009.
As part of this agreement, CAF and FNPI jointly run an annual program that offers an average of four workshops and four forums held in different cities of the region, with the participation of journalists, publishers, editors and media directors.
The Foundation, based in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia is an international center for the training and professional development of journalists. Journalist and writer Gabriel García Márquez began the Foundation in 1994. His idea was to conduct workshops where veteran journalists could gather with young reporters to discuss the craft in an informal manner more like a gathering of friends than a formal university class.
