The planning of the physical infrastructure for the integration and development of Latin America requires an adequate access to integrated, geo-referenced and standardized spatial information.

CAF has developed the Condor geographic information system, launched in the year 2000 as the first software tool designed to identify and prevent major negative environmental and social impacts associated with large infrastructure projects in the Andean region.

Afterwards, within the framework of the IIRSA Initiative, CAF's GeoSUR Program  was developed as part of a decentralized network of institutions responsible for generating and maintaining geographic information necessary to make strategic decisions in the region.

This network brings together the national geographic institutes, the ministries of infrastructure, planning and environment, regional universities and research institutions. GeoSUR includes a Regional Map Service of South America, which is made up of more than 40 regional interactive maps containing geographic information about all IIRSA projects available to the public.
