Green Future: The New Age of Energy
In a world marked by climate change and the urgent need to move toward a sustainable model, the energy transition has become a central axis of global agendas. Latin America and the Caribbean, with their wealth of natural resources and structural challenges, occupy a strategic position in this transformation. This course offers a comprehensive, up-to-date, and contextualized view of the energy transition. We will start with the global foundations of the shift toward a low-carbon model and then delve into the challenges and opportunities facing our region.
You will learn how it is possible to decouple economic growth from greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the fundamental role of renewable energies (solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, hydrogen, and bioenergy), and the strategic importance of energy efficiency. In addition, we will explore macroeconomic impacts, implications for the labor market, fiscal revenues, and policy design for a just and sustainable transition.
This course is based on the 2024 Economic and Development Report, "Renewed Energies: A Just Energy Transition for Sustainable Development."
