Experiences in COVID-19 Monitoring and Alerting in Wastewater: One Year Later

Experiences in COVID-19 Monitoring and Alerting in Wastewater: One Year Later

June 17, 2021

We are inviting interesting parties to participate in this talk organized in collaboration with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MTERD) in support of the activities carried out by the Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors (CODIA)

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted daily activities around the world, with multiple impacts on human lives and tremendous economic damage. The detection of the virus in wastewater began to be developed about a year ago in some countries and, due to its effectiveness, has aroused great interest, with a high potential for early detection of possible new outbreaks and to build an epidemiological surveillance system. Spain, Brazil and Uruguay are part of the group of countries engaged in this type of monitoring.

Therefore, and following up on the talk held last year on COVID-19 Monitoring and Early Warning in Wastewater, a second talk will be held organized by CAF—development bank of Latin America—in collaboration with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITERD), in support of the activities carried out by the Conference of Ibero-American Water Directors.

The forum will be an opportunity to learn about the experiences in monitoring COVID-19 in wastewater in the three countries mentioned above, and create a space to exchange ideas among member countries of CODIA.
