On-site event | Cities Summit - Healthy Cities, Healthier Communities
Within the framework of the Cities Summit of the Americas, CAF invites you to this session where, using CAF's Guide for Healthier Cities as reference, spreakers will address the planning of city models that harmonize economic and social development with the preservation of nature, through better policies for the benefit of the health and fulfillment of the people of our continent.
Event date:
April 26, 2023

The COVID-19 pandemic has given a new meaning to the concept of a “healthier” life. It has redefined our ability to mitigate unprecedented and extraordinary events related to health as well as our capacity to develop public policies that promote healthier lifestyles for citizens and protect the environment.
With this mind, CAF created the Guide for Healthier Cities, which provides decision-makers with a series of principles, tools, and recommendations for the development and management of public policies that promote healthy cities. The guide is intended for high-level political authorities, local government officials in health and urban planning, and leaders within civil society organizations working on the same issues.
The goal of this roundtable is to present and discuss the principles and tools necessary to promote health through urban planning and management.
The discussion will focus on the following topics:
1. The guiding principles for urban projects to improve the health of communities. These principles refer to the agreements reflected in the New Urban Agenda (NAU) and the Sustainable Development Goals.
2. The set of tools and resources available to local governments which can be used to create healthier, urban environments.
3. The models, strategies, and best practices for urban management in health, based on successful examples from other cities and governments.
Date: Wednesday, April 26th
