Digital Infrastructure Introductory Workshop Series 2026
The Digital Infrastructure Introductory Workshop Series (January–April 2026) brings together governments, development banks, and digital sector experts to strengthen knowledge on digital infrastructure, policy frameworks, financing models, and emerging technologies such as AI. Organized by MCDF, AfDB, CAF, IFAD, and the World Bank Group, the series supports countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean to better understand digital infrastructure priorities, share practical experiences, and identify actionable next steps for national development strategies.
Event date:

Digital technology is reshaping economies at unprecedented speed, creating new opportunities for growth, productivity, and inclusion. To support countries in navigating this transition, the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF), jointly with the African Development Bank (AfDB), CAF–development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Bank Group (WBG), will host the Digital Infrastructure Introductory Workshop Series from January to April 2026.
The digital economy is the fastest-growing sector worldwide and a critical driver of inclusive and sustainable development. However, limited knowledge about digital infrastructure continues to constrain how governments in developing countries plan, prioritize, and finance it to strengthen competitiveness. To help address this gap, the MCDF is convening a four-part virtual Digital Infrastructure Introductory Workshop Series, bringing together policymakers, financiers, and practitioners to explore how digital infrastructure can be effectively integrated into national development strategies.
The series will feature high-level speakers, including ministers from emerging markets, distinguished scholars, private sector leaders, and development practitioners, and will combine practical insights with global best practices.
WORKSHOP 1 - WEDNESDAY 21 JANUARY 2026
The Demand for Digital Infrastructure and Digital Public Infrastructure
The first session will introduce the key foundational concepts and differences between digital infrastructure and digital public infrastructure, essential for identifying connectivity and other digital service gaps, particularly in rural areas. It will examine both the supply and demand sides of digital infrastructure and stakeholder responses and highlight the need to prioritize and finance the sector as a critical tool for promoting sustainable economic development.
Format
The workshop will be held virtually. Presentations, case studies, and discussions will be conducted in English, with simultaneous translation in Spanish and French. Participants will engage through small group discussions, quick-answer apps, and question and answer sessions at the end of each panel discussion. Video recordings of select workshop content will be uploaded on the MCDF website.
Certificate
Participants who join three out of four workshops in the series will receive a participation certificate.
