This meeting aims to exchange ideas and experiences on security in public spaces, with an emphasis on the challenges of reclaiming degraded spaces, rebuilding the social fabric and reducing fear of crime.

Event date:

Experiences from around the world and the region have proven it is possible to improve public safety and reduce fear of crime among those who live in, transit through and visit cities, through urban interventions that include security as one of their dimensions. Proven methodologies, along with lessons learned from various interventions, reinforce the idea that proper articulation between urban policies and security policies improves the quality of public spaces, reducing crime, violence, and fear of such events, especially among women and vulnerable groups.

Local governments are privileged stakeholders at this intersection between security and public spaces, since they know their territories best and can analyze public spaces with a security perspective, in order to intervene with measures on situational prevention, recovery of degraded spaces and reconstruction of the social fabric.

In this context, this discussion is intended to become a forum for the exchange of knowledge, methodologies and experiences aimed at preventing crime and violence, as well as reducing the fear of crime through interventions and improvements in public spaces.
