Launch of the Infrastructure report in the development of Latin America (Ideal) 2022

CAF -development bank of Latin America- invites you to the launch of the report Infrastructure in the development of Latin America (Ideal) 2022, entitled "Water, energy and health for a better environment"

Event date:

December 01, 2022

Since the first United Nations Conference on the Environment that took place in 1972, countries have considered environmental care as a key element for the survival and sustainable development of their economies.

Climate change and the conservation of natural capital are the main environmental challenges facing society. This IDEAL 2022 report studies in depth the role of strategic infrastructure sectors in sustainable development.

Within the framework of the commitments for the decarbonization of economic activities, it is based on the current configuration of the energy matrices of the region, and the interventions that aim at the transition towards an energy system based on primary sources with a lower level of energy are analyzed. emissions, a higher electrical component, a reduction in energy intensity and the incorporation of technological developments that facilitate the transition, as well as actions to adapt to climate change, taking into account in a timely manner the capacities of the region.

In the water sector, the control of polluting activities, the improvement in efficiency, the development of the circular economy and an integrated resource management approach contribute to the conservation of water resources. The report reviews policies, regulations, and investments in infrastructure —traditional and those that include natural resources— to achieve this objective, without neglecting access and affordability of the service.
