CAF's Executive President, Luis Carranza, went on his first visit to Uruguay, where he met with Mario Bergara, President of the Central Bank, and Pablo Ferreri, Undersecretary for the Economy and Finances.

Luis Carranza Ugarte, the new Executive President of CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, went on his first official visit to Uruguay. During his stay in Montevideo, he met with Mario Bergara, President of the Central Bank ofg Uruguay, and Pablo Ferreri, Undersecretary for the Economy and Finances. 

Carranza reaffirmed the organization's commitment with Uruguay and the projects that promote sustainable development in the country and for its inhabitants. 

In order to support Uruguay's development strategy, CAF's comprehensive agenda to 2020 includes contributing to the country's positioning as a regional logistic hub through transportation infrastructure (roadways, railroad, ports); to encourage the increase of productivity in all the sectors of the economy through investment in innovation and development; and continue supporting the development of the coverage and quality of water, among others. 

In the past five years (2012-2016), CAF approved operation for Uruguay for USD 3.443 billion, which represents an average of  USD 689 million per year. In the first quarter of this year, the institution approved a loan for the Program for the Improvement and Rehabilitation of the Potable Water Systems and Sanitation in Uruguay (Phase II), for USD 30 million, with the aim of improving the service levels of potable water and the implementation of sanitation actions.
