CAF Supports Peru’s Actions to Protect Healthcare Staff against Coronavirus
Faced with the crisis caused by COVID-19, which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), Peru’s Ministry of Health will receive non-reimbursable CAF funds to enhance the safety of people in the first line of defense in this emergency.
Peru’s Ministry of Health will receive USD 400,000 in non-reimbursable funds from CAF—development bank of Latin America—to provide greater protection for healthcare personnel through the purchase of equipment, among other initiatives, with the aim of enhancing the safety of people working in the prevention, containment and care of patients affected by the healthcare emergency occurring in more than 180 countries with confirmed cases of coronavirus.
Thus, CAF joins the actions undertaken by Peru’s government in the containment and subsequent mitigation of COVID-19, which calls for the implementation of the Action-Surveillance Plan, containment and case management with prevention and control mechanisms to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“We value the efforts made by the government, and therefore join with a quick and timely contribution of non-reimbursable funds to the Ministry of Health, to assist in its efforts in prevention, containment and patient care, to safeguard the lives of Peruvians,” said CAF executive president Luis Carranza Ugarte.
As a development partner and following World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, CAF reiterates its support to shareholders in addressing this humanitarian emergency with initiatives such as those carried out today in Peru and the donation of key supplies to address the emergency as efficiently as possible to Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare. In addition, CAF has put in place a rapid Countercyclical Emergency Credit Line for up to USD 2.5 billion for its member countries.
