CAF Donates USD 400K to Trinidad and Tobago to Take on COVID-19
CAF—development bank of Latin America—donated USD 400,000 to Trinidad and Tobago in an effort to strengthen the safety of people working on prevention, mitigation and care of patients affected by the new coronavirus strain.
Trinidad and Tobago’s ministry of finance will receive a USD 400,000 donation from CAF to strengthen its emergency response mechanisms and improve the protection and safety of medical personnel working on the prevention, mitigation and care of patients affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
With this donation, CAF aims to support the containment and control measures that the government of Trinidad and Tobago is undertaking to prevent the spread of the virus.
“Trinidad and Tobago’s efforts to contain and mitigate the pandemic are going in the right direction,” CAF executive president Luis Carranza said. “This donation is the first of several actions we are undertaking to help strengthen prevention, mitigation and health care, in order to preserve public health in the country.”
Following World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, CAF supports its member countries in managing this humanitarian emergency with initiatives such as the current donation to Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, CAF opened a USD 2.5 billion rapid emergency credit line for countries in need of urgent assistance.
