CAF Donates USD 400K to Uruguay to Fight COVID-19
CAF—development bank of Latin America—has made a donation to Uruguay to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and mitigate its effects on public health and the economy.
The ministry of economy and finance will receive USD 400,000 from CAF, aiming to strengthen the protection of the country’s healthcare personnel and support its healthcare plans against the effects of coronavirus.
Thus, CAF joins the actions undertaken by Uruguay’s government in the containment and subsequent mitigation of COVID-19, which calls for the implementation of the Action-Surveillance Plan, containment and case management with prevention and control mechanisms to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“Uruguay’s efforts to contain and mitigate the pandemic are going in the right direction,” CAF executive president Luis Carranza Ugarte said. “We join the effort with a quick and timely contribution to the Ministry of Health to strengthen prevention, containment and care to preserve the public health of Uruguayans.”
As a development partner and following the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), CAF reiterates its support to shareholders in addressing this humanitarian emergency with initiatives such as that carried out in Peru and the donation of key supplies to address the emergency in the most efficient way possible to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare of Paraguay. In addition, a rapid countercyclical emergency credit line of up to USD 2.5 billion is available to its 19 member countries.
