CAF to bring the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean to FFd4 in Seville

The IV Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) will be a key opportunity for the region to mobilize resources for sustainable development. In this context, CAF will play a leading role with a strategic agenda that includes the coordination of a meeting between representatives of the European Union and CELAC.

June 23, 2025

The IV Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), which will take place in Seville from June 30 to July 3, 2025, presents a unique opportunity for Latin America and the Caribbean in a global context characterized by the urgent need to finance sustainable and inclusive development.

In addition to mobilizing more sources of financing for development, especially in areas such as climate change, energy transition and human development, Latin America and the Caribbean has the opportunity to consolidate itself as a region with solutions to the major global challenges of the next decade.

Although the region represents 8% of world GDP, it requires 2.5 trillion dollars annually to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In parallel, the region has exceptional potential. In the environmental sphere, for example, it is home to six of the planet's seventeen megadiverse countries (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela), generates 33% of its primary energy from renewable sources (compared to 13% globally) and has managed to reduce Amazon deforestation by 42%, demonstrating that it is possible to reconcile economic growth and sustainability.

CAF at FFd4

CAF will take part in FFD4 with a full agenda of initiatives, including the meeting of its Board of Directors —its highest decision-making body—, the coordination of a meeting between representatives of the European Union and CELAC —building on the dialogue initiated in Santiago de Compostela in 2023—, and the mobilization of new financial resources in collaboration with international partners. These initiatives strengthen institutional governance and position CAF as a key player in connecting Latin America and the Caribbean with development financing.

In addition, CAF will organize and or be present the following FFd4 events:

  • June 30:

Innovative cooperation and financing mechanisms between CAF and local governments in Latin America: In this event, CAF and Mercociudades will present the main findings of a joint research on opportunities and challenges in cooperation and financing between the bank and local governments in Latin America.

  • July 1:

From Spending to Impact: Leveraging Public Procurement for a Sustainable Future. This event will highlight how sustainable public procurement can be a key strategic tool to mobilize domestic resources, drive inclusive growth, and move towards a circular, low-carbon economy.

Financing Care Systems for Gender Equality and Economic Prosperity: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach. This event will address the urgency of investing in care systems as a key strategy to reduce inequalities, boost women's economic participation, and strengthen more inclusive and resilient economies.

Unlocking Sustainable Finance through Quasi Sovereigns: Accelerating Sustainable Investments in Emerging Economies. The event will highlight the key role of quasi-sovereigns-such as national development banks and subnational governments-in mobilizing resources for sustainable development in Latin America and other emerging economies.

Boosting the Regional, Scaling the Global: Unlocking Green and Development Finance through Regional Multilateral Development Banks: The event will address how regional multilateral development banks can be key players in redesigning the international financial architecture by offering innovative and locally-tailored solutions to drive sustainable, resilient and inclusive development.
