CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, approved a US$240 million corporate loan to support the financing of Aerocivil's 2025-2030 Strategic Investment Plan in Colombia, which aims to modernize air navigation infrastructure and airport services in priority regions of the country. The new infrastructure will reinforce Colombia's key role in connecting intra-regional flight operations and strengthen the integration of Latin American countries. More precise flight control will strengthen the commitment to decarbonize the regional air sector by shortening flight times and distances.

The financing will make it possible to implement advanced air navigation technologies, rehabilitate and expand regional airport infrastructure, and strengthen Aerocivil's institutional capabilities. These interventions will seek to ensure safer and more efficient operations, while promoting economic development and territorial integration through improved air connectivity.

"With this operation, CAF reaffirms its commitment to the development of strategic infrastructure in Colombia and Latin America. The modernization of the airport system will not only improve operational safety, but will also boost regional competitiveness, connecting remote communities with national and international markets," said Sergio Diaz-Granados, CAF's executive president.

The resources may be used, among others, for three main objectives:

  • Modernize the set of technological and digital infrastructures that allow managing, in real time and with high safety standards, all phases of commercial and operational flights in the country (air navigation aids system, aeronautical surveillance radars, updating control centers and radar rooms, instrument landing systems (ILS), meteorology systems, aeronautical communications and digital towers).
  • Rehabilitate and expand regional airport infrastructure, including the development of the land side of the Tolu airport, as part of a strategic intervention to strengthen the economic development of the Gulf of Morrosquillo and the Caribbean region.
  • Strengthen Aerocivil's institutional capacities and human talent in planning, execution and maintenance of infrastructure; all this in order to promote economic development through improvements in regional air connectivity.
