Why is energy efficiency important?

Latin America is very rich in natural resources, but has the need to integrate its renewable and non-renewable resources in order to use energy more efficiently. One of the risks of the region is to quickly deplete its non-renewable resources due to the improper use of energy, or being less competitive at an international level as a result of using more energy for its production.
