Incorporation of technology in educational systems

CAF -development bank of Latin America- organizes this round of talks about the incorporation of technology in the educational systems of the countries of the region.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for the countries of the region to accelerate the processes of incorporating technology into their educational systems in the context of the rapid and profound transformations that technology itself is imposing on the different orders of life and work.

This round of talks is part of the actions of CAF and its Educational Agenda to contribute to closing some of the most important gaps that affect our region.

This first conversation will address the institutional dimension from the perspective of national or subnational programs or public policies for the inclusion of technologies in educational systems, with planning, regulations and curricular development and institutional management as key elements.

In its vocation to contribute to high-impact projects for children and youth in the region, especially from the most vulnerable contexts, CAF has developed a diagnostic tool for self-assessment of the level of incorporation of technology in education, as well as a series of roadmaps that facilitate the planning and implementation of sustainable public policies that allow progress in this regard.

On the one hand, the case of Uruguay will be exposed with the Plan Ceibal initiative, which seeks to promote digital inclusion, accompanied by an educational proposal in accordance with the new requirements for correct future job placement, and a strong intervention regarding training. of teachers through a comprehensive approach that includes both students and their families.

On the other hand, the case of the National Initiative for Digital Competences 2030 (INCoDe) in Portugal will be presented, which seeks to ensure the development of the information society and combat info-exclusion to guarantee the effective exercise of citizen rights, through the design of initiatives in the field of computing, networks in schools and learning processes; training teachers and generating connections between research and education institutions (Rede Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade, RCTS).

These experiences will offer lessons learned and pending challenges that will undoubtedly be useful to continue advancing in the incorporation of technology in education regardless of the level of development reached to date.
