Online Event | Public policies and cooperation for gender equality

During this discussion, experiences will be shared about the challenges of the region in terms of incorporating the gender perspective in the design and implementation of public policies in the region.

This meeting is being held in the framework of the commemoration of International Women's Day and on the occasion of the meeting of the CAF Board of Directors at ECLAC headquarters, with Chile as the host country.

Through this high-level dialogue, CAF and ECLAC seek to create a space to share experiences, ideas and proposals to respond to pressing challenges related to gender mainstreaming in the design and implementation of public policies and regional cooperation.

Opening remarks will be delivered by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC; Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of CAF; and Luz Vidal Huiriqueo, Undersecretary for Women and Gender Equity of Chile.

The event will feature presentations by women of recognized management experience in the public, political and academic spheres. The keynote address will be given by Michelle Bachelet, who was twice president of Chile and was also the first pro tempore president of UNASUR and the first Executive Director of UN Women. She was also United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Minister of National Defense and Minister of Health of Chile.

Afterwards, a panel will be held with interventions by Renata Vargas, Secretary of International Affairs and Development of Brazil; Claudia Sanhueza, Undersecretary of Finance of Chile; Luz Pascala Vidal Huiriqueo, Undersecretary of Women and Gender Equity, Chile; Michelle Muschett, Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean and Carolina Leitao, President of the Association of Municipalities and Mayor of Peñalolén (Chile); María José Torres, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Chile, and other personalities.

The closing ceremony will be in charge of María José Torres, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Chile and Alejandra Claros, Secretary General of CAF.

The perspective of these outstanding women and their experience is essential to promote public policies to achieve gender equality and a more productive, inclusive and sustainable future in the region.
